Make your own
Goofy Putty!

This is an excellent recipe for "Goofy Putty"
(not to be confused with a commercial product with a similar name).

Ingredients:
Elmer's Glue-All White Glue (don't use cheap stuff)
Borax (available in grocery or hardware stores)
Food Coloring (optional)

Prepare your work area by putting down newspaper or plastic.

Children should have an adult help them

  1. Prepare a Borax solution by mixing 1 tablespoon of Borax to one cup of water and mixing well until the Borax is completely dissolved.
  2. Measure 5 teaspoons of Elmer's Glue-All white glue into a paper cup.
  3. Add 4 teaspoons of water and stir well.
  4. If desired, add up to 5 drops of food coloring. If you add food coloring your putty may stain your hands or clothes when you play with it (your parents won't like this).
  5. Stir well.
  6. Add 1 teaspoon Borax solution.
  7. Stir well until the mixture solidifies on the stirrer and the bottom of the cup.
  8. Remove the solid material from the cup and pull any off stirrer. The material will be sticky for about two minutes.
  9. Throw away the left over liquid that didn't become solid. Don't pour it down the drain.
  10. Clean up your work area.
  11. Store your goofy putty in a plastic bag when you aren't playing with it.
  12. You can save your Borax solution in a jar to make more putty. You should label it "Borax solution".
  13. Enjoy your creation!
